​I am pleased to selectively provide expert services to clients whose needs align with my expertise. This includes governments considering the provision of lifeguard services or adjustments to existing services, as well as parties to legal cases involving drowning, beach and water injury, sand collapse, boating injury, and other related issues. These are examples of my work.

​Expert Consulting - Legal Cases
  • ​Grinnell v. New Jersey et al (2018) – Defendant’s lifeguards alleged to have failed to see and adequately respond to the drowning death of a child. Retained by defendants.
  • Mayfield v. USA (2018) – Defendant alleged to be negligent in mutilation and death of a child and father as a result of propeller injuries at a reservoir maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers. Retained by plaintiffs. ​
  • Bennion v. Plaza Del Sol Estate Trust et al (2015) – Defendants alleged to be negligent in the drowning death of a 10 year old boy at their hotel pool. Retained by plaintiff. 
  • Kormylo et al v. Forever Resorts, LLC et al (2015) US District Court – Defendants alleged to have been negligent in the injury of a man due to a boating accident. Retained by plaintiff and third party defendants.
  • Sang et al v. Masters College and Seminary et al (2014) California Superior Court – Defendants alleged to have been negligent in the death of a student who died in a sand collapse at a beach. Retained by plaintiff.
  • Walters v. City of San Diego, et al. (2012) US District Court – Defendants alleged to have falsely arrested and imprisoned a man. Retained by plaintiff.
  • Duffy v. The Key West Reach Limited Partnership (2011) Florida Circuit Court – Defendants alleged to have negligently caused injury to a person diving from a pier. Retained by plaintiff.
  • Murphy v. City of San Diego, et al (2008) California Superior Court – Claim against employer related to termination from employment. Retained by defendant.
  • Singh et al v. East Bay Regional Park District (2005) – Defendants alleged to have been negligent in the drowning death of a swimmer. Representing defendants.
  • Bullock v. East Bay Regional Park District (2004) – Defendants alleged to have failed to properly care for a swimmer who died by drowning. Retained by defendant.
  • Wendt v. USA (2004) US District Court – Defendants alleged to have negligently managed a national park, causing the death of a female visitor. Retained by plaintiff.
  • Anderson, et al. vs. TERI (2004) – Defendants alleged to have failed to provide proper care for a man who drowned in their board and care home pool. Retained by plaintiff. 
  • Johnson, et al. vs. Lake Mission Viejo Association, et al (2003) – Defendants alleged to have failed to prevent a drowning death at Lake Mission Viejo. Retained by defendants.
  • ​Pond, et al. vs. Cutler, et al. (2002) – Defendants alleged to have improperly operated a recreational motorboat in a manner which caused death to an individual. Retained by defendants.
  • Fine, et al. vs. Seaforth Sportfishing, et al. (2002) – Defendants alleged to have improperly operated a sportfishing boat which was struck by waves in the Mission Bay (San Diego) channel, resulting in injury to passengers. Retained by plaintiffs. ​
  • Ravins vs. Alvarez, Endersby, Morro Bay, et al (2001) US District Court – Defendants alleged to have failed to take actions which might have prevented death of two persons in a recreational vessel which capsized in surf, resulting in the death of two children. Retained by plaintiffs.
  • Garner et al. vs. The City of New York, et al. (2001) – Defendants alleged to have improperly maintained a beach area, resulting in serious injuries to a minor who submerged, but was resuscitated. Retained by plaintiff.

​Expert Consulting - Government
  • Costa Rica (2017 – Retained by the U.S. Embassy to work with Costa Rica government, private sector, and nonprofit leaders to strengthen and broaden lifeguard services to reduce drowning.
  • Del Mar, California (2017) – Retained by the city to conduct a review and provide recommendations regarding a drowning incident to establish facts, assess response, and make recommendations for improved operations.
  • Puerto Rico (2015) – Engaged by the Puerto Rico Sea Grant College Program as part of a team to provide recommendations on drowning prevention and the provision of lifeguards. ​
  • Brevard County, Florida (2007 - 2008) – Worked as part of a team to provide recommendations on drowning prevention and the provision of lifeguards.
  • Puerto Rico (2007) – Engaged by the Puerto Rico Sea Grant College Program as part of a team to provide recommendations on drowning prevention and the provision of lifeguards. 
  • Destin, Florida (2003) – Retained by the Mayor and City Council, as part of a two-person team, to assess drowning prevention needs and provide a plan to provided lifeguard services.
  • Pensacola, Florida (2002) – Participated as part of a multi-expert team to assess drowning prevention needs and provide a plan to provided lifeguard services on the beaches of the Santa Rosa Island Authority.
  • Bay County, Florida (2001) – Provided consulting services at the invitation of the county, as part of a two-person team, to assess drowning prevention needs and provide a plan to provided lifeguard services..​
